Want to learn?

Jacqueline is available to teach one-on-one or in a group setting on a number of subjects, including act planning, musicality, floorwork, chair work, stage presence and makeup, and specializes in adaptive movement for mobility limitations. Her two most popular classes are as follows:

"The Mind: Dance for Mobility Restrictions"
The Mind is a class that focuses on theory, group discussion, meditation and mindfulness. How can we rewrite our conversations with our bodies in the midst of injury or limited mobility? (approx. 50 minutes)

"The Movement: Floor/Chair for Mobility Restrictions"
The Movement is where I share how I've come to reimagine burlesque movements on chairs and on the floor in a way that avoids injury and keeps all the sex. How do you captivate a room without the strut or the parade? (approx. 50 minutes)

These classes work really well as a duo, but they can also be taken separately! Limited mobility is a reality for EVERY body at some point, and learning how to move in harmony with restrictions rather than in spite of them is a valuable lifelong tool.

Testimonials

  • "Jacqueline has made a world of difference in helping me approach burlesque as a performer with disability and chronic illness. Her advice and mentorship have taught me how to be mindful of my pain and take care of myself without sacrificing any stage presence. Learning from her is something that I am eternally grateful for. I very much look forward to working with her more in the future, and cannot recommend her enough as a mentor!" -Sally Stardust
  • "Jacqueline is a fantastic teacher. I came into her class with zero burlesque experience and a strong sense of curiosity, and she helped me feel like I could do anything on stage. She has a way of instructing that's both kind and honest. She will never make you feel unwelcome. And she cultivates a, incredibly supportive learning environment. That's so important for a student who's undergoing such an emotionally and physically vulnerable experience. I can't thank her enough for that." -Mary Muse
  • "In 2016, I had the distinct pleasure of taking Jacqueline Boxx's "Body Language for Burlesque Performance and Beyond" experience at BurlyCon.  This class was transformative for me, because it made me realized that, as a traditionally able-bodied person, I limit myself to the motions society expects from my body. Learning to listen to my body, and find movement which REALLY feels good to ME, was a truly powerful experience, and one which I take in to my everyday life." -Electra Mourning
  • "I took Jacqueline’s class "Body Language for Mobility Restrictions" during the Minneapolis Burlesque Festival. At the time, I was able to perform in heels and pass as able bodied, despite having issues such as Ehlers Danlos Hypermobility Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Learning from her class helped me create shapes and find moves that I could do without exacerbating the issues. Since then, I have a new tool, a wheelchair. I felt defeated, yet empowered. The biggest takeaway from the class was “find a move you can do and burlesque it.” This has changed how I view my capability in dancing, even in a wheelchair. Find what works for you, find a way to make it sexy, and combine them to create a number that is not only visually appealing to the audience, but keeps you from further injury, and becomes empowering for yourself and others." -Minda Mae
  • "Working with JB in the Essential Tease class was an extraordinary experience, truly transformative for me. She’s such a thoughtful, knowledgeable and giving teacher and such a beautiful performer!  Approaching burlesque performance from such a global perspective was amazing, exploring and caring for the interior and exterior of each student. Jacqueline presented such a great balance between the practical and the sublime. I felt challenged to strengthen and broaden my performance and sense of my myself as a (student) performer, but in all ways felt safe and supported.  My ultimate goal was to be present and enjoy my performance and to connect with the audience, unlike previous performances where I was so nervous I didn’t remember being on stage. With the help of Jacqueline and the other Essential Tease teachers I was able to meet that goal and ended my student experience light years from where I started." -Beatrix Inferno
  • "Jacqueline is a knowledgeable teacher who draws from both her own experiences and the methodologies that she’s studied. She is also attentive to the needs of her students, allowing them to work within the capabilities of their bodies. She’s creative and quick-thinking and happy to brainstorm ideas and work-arounds for any problems that we bring up in class.” -Chaos X Machina
  • "I absolutely loved taking classes from Jacqueline Boxx. The first time I took classes from her, was at BurlyCon in 2017, and was a class for restrictions. I was in three major car accidents and have severe soft tissue damage, as well as depression and anxiety. This class made me feel so comfortable, and not “broken”. It was a safe space to discuss and learn choreography or movement/expressions that made an impact on stage with doing what was comfortable within my body and my restrictions. I look forward to taking more classes. It was by far the most accepted and comfortable I have felt in a class, and recommend it to anyone and everyone!" -Evangeline Cachet
  • "Jacqueline is an intuitive and supportive teacher who is capable of adapting her curriculum to almost any student. Speaking from the heart but possessing a powerful mind, Jacqueline’s classes really do integrate every aspect of humanity and is perfect for beginners looking to build a foundation or lifelong performers seeking fresh insights. Jacqueline’s class made me listen to my body in a way I had been avoiding for years. Using what she taught has made me see “weaknesses” as strengths ; as jumping off points to being the strongest me possible." -Maggie McMuffin
